#AUSWorldSBK: Finally, the goal for debut races with Pedercini achieved

Sandro Cortese came home twice in the points at the first race weekend of the new season. On Sunday afternoon, the 30-year-old shone at Phillip Island with a solid ninth place.

However, Sunday started with a moment of shock for Sandro Cortese and his Italian Pedercini Racing Team. During warm-up session this morning, the Kawasaki rider came in contact with American rider Garret Gerloff. Both riders crashed. The race organizers then ordered a penalty. Cortese had to start one row further back instead of from P9 on the starting grid. He finished this sprint race for ten laps in eleventh place. In the second main race of the weekend, the two-time motorcycle world champion finished in a respectable ninth place.

#11 Sandro CORTESE (OUTDO Kawasaki Racing, Kawasaki ZX-10RR), Superpole-Race: P11 / Race2: P9:

"Today's race day was a pleasant conclusion to the weekend. However, it began with a slight setback in the warm-up. Fortunately, this fall ended harmlessly. At this point I also would like to express my apologizes to Garrett. I am sorry and it was not my intention to bring him to fall in this situation as well. I hope he didn't hurt himself. In the Superpole race we managed the first increase today. It was really a big step forward. We changed a lot of the electronics and we understand them better and better. The main race in the afternoon was awesome from our point of view. We finished just eleven seconds off the race winner’s time. That was a clear improvement compared to yesterday's race. This is an important step for us, and we can build on this improvement. In the end, we also managed the jump into the top ten. I'm equally pleased about the achievement of our goal. So, we can now go to the next race in Qatar with a good feeling."
