#ARGWorldSBK: Strong seventh place in Superpole race
For Sandro Cortese, however, the Argentinean round came to a conclusion with another disappointment.
Despite nice weather conditions, the penultimate round of the Superbike World Championship in the northwest of the South American country wasn’t under a good star. At first the track at the fascinating Circuito San Juan Villicum was in a miserable condition though, with each session the situation improved, so that on Sunday two races could take place in good track conditions. After the abandonment on Saturday due to the conditions, the second race day began very pleasantly for Sandro Cortese finishing the Superpole race in P7. With correspondingly increased self-confidence and hopes of being able to repeat this performance in the second main race, the regrettable 29-year-old Berkheimer struggled in the afternoon with tyre issues.
Before the season’s finale in two weeks under the floodlights in Qatar, the Superbike rookie is in eleventh place overall. The top ten in the championship are still within reach.
#11 Sandro CORTESE (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK, Yamaha YZF R1), Superpole-Race: P7 / Race2: P15:
"Honestly, I’ve to say that this weekend has been just disappointing from the start to the finish. Apart from the Superpole race there was nothing positive here in Argentina. After seventh place I was hoping for a similar result for the second race. This started with a good start in the afternoon either. I got perfectly away, but after only seven laps the tyre disintegrated. That's why I had no chance to attack at all. That was extremely bitter because I was fifth at that point. So, a strong result was within reach. I simply don't have the words. No matter how I tackle it, I simply won't be rewarded for it. In my current situation, I am gradually running out of opportunities to prove myself for next year."
