#PRTWorldSBK: Longingly awaited start after the long summer break
During the last eight weeks, Sandro Cortese has recovered well from his painful shoulder injury.
After a two-month break, the Superbike World Championship will enter the last third of the season this weekend with the meeting at Portugal's Algarve coastline. At the last event in mid-July at the Laguna Seca Raceway in California, Sandro Cortese was very handicapped. A week earlier he had injured his left shoulder ligaments in a crash in Donington as well as he suffered fibre tears to his supraspinatus tendon. Thanks to successful ultrasonic therapies, the 29-year-old superbike rookie from Berkheim now feels fit again to return to old strength.
#11 Sandro CORTESE (GRT Yamaha Team, Yamaha YZF R1):
"I’m very happy that racing finally starts again after the long summer break. During the last eight weeks I’ve been working hard on my physical condition. I’ve done many therapies and I also was working just as much on my fitness. But I don't think that I'm at 100 percent yet concerning my shoulder. With certain movements I still feel the injury. But my condition is much better than it was eight weeks ago at the last race in America. The doctors say it's a normal healing process that still takes a little time. But during our test one and a half weeks ago in Portimao I was able to ride painlessly. This test was very positive at all. So, this weekend will be interesting to see what we’ve achieved at the penultimate weekend. In any case, I'm highly motivated to pick up where we left off before the injury at Donington. If we can do that, then we are definitely on the right track to quickly return to the top ten."
